HIV first appeared at the beginning of the 1980's. It was a totally different story then because people didn't know much about the infection. Many people called it AIDS and if you contracted the virus, it usually meant death but since then we've come a long way. Things are very much different now because people know a lot more about HIV and how to treat the virus, which means that people with HIV can live longer and also live a healthier life.

Just because things have changed with the advances in treatment of drugs it doesn't mean that we don't need to worry so much about HIV anymore.
